Adam Kachlík

Resident Instructor

Bio

Adam comes from Vyskov, CZ. He studied architecture and urban design at the Brno University of Technology. Drawing has always been a part of his life, so during his studies it was an important, inseparable subject and a much needed tool in helping him learn and stay creative.

The focus on painting came a few years later during a residence in Denmark (VIA University), where he experienced a unique openness within the nordic culture, which was felt and manifested especially in the art world.

Thanks to Adam’s acquaintance with the work of Nordic painters, he understood that old master techniques and approaches to painting can be further developed and utilised within a contemporary context. Namely, his first influences were Michael Kvium and subsequently Odd Nerdrum.

In 2016 – 20, Adam owned a tattoo studio in the center of Rouen (FR), he has experience in leading a team, training colleagues, organizing workshops and developing a sense of community between students.

Still life in oil – classical atelier lectures

Teaching methods

His experience in classical painting techniques comes vastly from the Vienna Atelier of Traditional Art, where he studied under Dale Zinkowski, Diana Buitrago and Andy Nabong. Adam attended drawing classes at the Faculty of Arts in Brno and figure drawing classes in Rouen, France.

Adam has a great interest in teaching and figuring out how to transfer technical knowledge in classical oil painting, drawing, and approaching materials within the current context.

Lecturer’s motto

„Drawing and painting are the most universal language of human expression, and I wish that everyone had a chance to explore the countless approaches and find one that suits them best. Having such a powerful tool of expression allows us to decipherably perceive reality and capture it, so that it can be shared with others.“
