This workshop will give you a deeper understanding of the still life genre and oil painting in general. You will learn how to transform simple objects into compelling, visually striking compositions.
The course will be tailored to your individual needs, with ample one-on-one guidance, personalized critiques, and opportunities for each student to refine their technique.

All levels welcome – whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your painting practice, these lectures will provide the tools and techniques necessary to elevate your artwork to the next level.

Friday evening demo and weekend lectures on painting from life

Each workshop will begin with a short Friday evening introduction, giving you some extra time to prepare your work space and set up the composition for your painting. During this time, a small demo study in oil will give you an idea about the following process.

Guidance from the bases

This program is suitable for everyone interested in the practice of oil painting, creativity in composition, concept of light or colour theory. We will guide you according to your individual approach and discuss each step on your way to a finished painting.

Methods of practice

During each 6h lecture you will be shown approaches to these themes: setting of the subject, basic rules of composition, ways of lighting the subject, importance of values, shapes, simplified brush drawing, the use of colour, brushwork and the use of edges, using the direct method (Alla Prima).

What we focus on

Drawing/painting from life – rendering the subject realistically, based on our perception.

Searching for the truth in expression, related to what is known for us – understanding the world around us and learning the rules of visualization

Not a patronizing academic approach, but rather sharing within a community of fellow artists, helping to navigate the art world.

Mindfulness – learning how to turn in and enjoy the process. Immersion in the surrounding world.

Time investment in studies is difficult, the goal of this lecture is a long-term reward.

Materials list:
In the studio you have the following ready: Linseed and poppy oil, Turpentine, frameless primed canvas, basic brushes, tape, drawing supplies.
